Our Why

Leah and Kate are esteemed educators and classical strategists

Reclaiming Lutheran education to form faithful church workers and laity who are biblically grounded, timelessly educated, and vocationally minded, thereby being liberated to love God and serve neighbor

We believe education is soul-work, not mere preparation for employment, affluence, and entertainment. We wish to witness blessings not only for the individual personally but for broader society, by encouraging students towards the Good, the True and the Beautiful. Leah and Kate recognize that the chaos and uncertainty prevalent in contemporary culture and the education it offers do not cultivate the human spirit in such a way. Instead, they fragment, dismantle, and impoverish it. We do not have the luxury of holding back. We must embolden each other in pursuing classical, Lutheran education.

We perceive that Lutheran schools today have an unprecedented opportunity to fully reclaim their classical heritage, embracing the gifts of distinctly Lutheran classical education for the benefit of their students, families, congregations, and wider communities. With a firm undergirding of faith and a rich classical heritage, Kate and Leah assert that the LCMS is in a profound position to be a nurturing, edifying, and stabilizing influence in our turbulent times.

For thousands of years the classical arts of learning were the standard, including within the first “Lutheran” schools, whose intentions were to offer a classical education to more than just the elites. As the 2nd largest parochial school system in the United States, we have the infrastructure to serve so many of our Lutheran families through Lutheran education. Yet many of our Lutheran families do not send their students to the local Lutheran school.

All around us, classical and religious institutions are experiencing rapid growth, yet our Lutheran schools are generally declining in enrollment, and our number of classical Lutheran schools could be greater.

As Lutherans, our doctrine, heritage, and beliefs lead to ways of educating that are life-giving. With our Lutheran focus on the sacramental, Christological, liturgical, and Creedal, we can confidently educate our children to understand and embrace their faith, learning what it means to live vocationally in serving God and their neighbor.

Classical Lutheran Education cultivates the human spirit. While everything about being human is being dismantled, we are rebuilding. We must rearticulate, reclaim, collaborate, and build classical Lutheran education that energizes us and our families toward Truth, Goodness, and Beauty found in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our Lutheran faith and traditions offer depth and distinction amid widespread cultural deprivation, and Kate and Leah are dedicated to cultivating distinctly Lutheran classical education.
