In recent years, students have demonstrated significant disengagement from their learning. There are a variety of ways educators address this engagement, ranging from facilitating collaborative work to helping students set achievable goals. One of the most effective ways to inspire students to invest in their own education, however, is to cultivate intrinsic motivation for learning. Join us to discuss intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, who is responsible for a student’s education, and how to cultivate intrinsic motivation in your students.

Seven Components of Restful Teaching

February 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM ET

Does teaching ever seem harried and hassled? Without realizing it, the educational fragmentation and anxiety of progressive education can penetrate our teaching. Classical education aspires to a different approach. Seven Latin phrases encapsulate teaching principles that nurture and encourage rest: Optimus Magister Bonus Liber; Repetitio Mater Memoriae; Festina Lente; Multum Non Multa; Docendo Discimus; Ad Fontes; Scholé. When these maxims are heeded the classical pedagogy shines forth and the telos of education surfaces. As restful teaching is embodied, both we and our students are awakened in wonder and curiosity, and teaching and learning become restful.

Teachers serve in a very special calling, both according to Scripture and in keeping with the expectations of the culture. While some may feel a teacher’s roles include being a social worker, babysitter, security guard, life coach, motivational speaker, or even miracle worker, the higher callings of a teacher to help students come to know Truth, Goodness, and Beauty and aid students in recognizing and honing their unique gifts speak to something “more” than is generally considered today. Join us to explore five “M’s” of the roles of a teacher.
